Over the past few years we have been out and about in the National Forest area recording the developing forest landscape and facilities. The photographs and descriptions of what they show are compiled here for you to browse and enjoy.
Printed versions of the pages are available. You can either purchase the whole collection or choose the area(s) you are interested in. The pages are A4 in size. You can also purchase enlargements of some of the photos.
Additionally, you will see a postcard sending facility where you can choose a national forest photo to go on the card and then send it to your friends and family.
The National Forest is a forest in the making. 200 square miles spanning three counties in the English Midlands whose physical creation can now be witnessed and enjoyed. The National Forest is for the nation, welcoming to visitors and home to local people, all of whom can participate in its development as part of the nation’s future heritage.
Creating a new landscape from scratch is a long-term project. To date the Forest has been a decade in the making and it is estimated that it will take another 15 to 20 years before all objectives are realised.
Nearly 5 million trees have already been planted (as at March 2002), more than doubling woodland cover in the Forest area. There has been a greening of 575 hectares of derelict coalfield land and mineral workings and thousands of hectares of farmland have been converted to woods. Already, the growing Forest has created new jobs, especially at new visitor attractions that are part of a rapidly growing tourism sector.
The pages here include information for walkers, cyclists, campers and other people who have an interest in outdoor activities.
