The Needwood Forest is located between Hoar Cross and Tatenhill, a few miles to the west of Burton upon Trent. Although broken up by farmland and Tatenhill Airfield, there is still many areas of woodland. At Jackson's Bank, near Hoar Cross, the Duchy of Lancaster have allowed access to over 80 acres of mature mixed broadleaved and coniferous woodland with numerous trails.
The board (right) shows the relationship of Jackson's Bank, Crossplain Wood and Tatenhill Airfield.
At Newchurch is Crossplain Wood, which runs along the southern boundary of the airfield. There are numerous public rights of way running between the local villages and circular walks could be made between the public house at Hoar Cross and the New Inn at Needwood. The popular Byrkley Park garden centre is also nearby.
