Built in 1701-3 and set in 600 acres of parkland and ancient woodland, Calke Abbey is now owned by The National Trust and open to the public.
The house features collections, restored orangery, glass houses, gardens and a shop and restaurant. Special events are held throughout the year and include concerts.
The park contains a number of lakes with many paths (around 2 1/2 miles) through the surrounding woodland.

Just down the road (at the southern tip of the reservoir) is Dimminsdale Nature Reserve which is a former limestone quarry where the remains of lime kilns can be seen. A round trip of the reserve is about a 1 mile walk.
