Alrewas Area

photo

The National Memorial Arboretum has been created on a 150 acre site near Alrewas, (between the A38 and the river Tame), as a living tribute to the wartime generations of the 20th century.

Planting began in 1997 and different areas have been created for the various services and organisations.

The Millennium Chapel of peace and forgiveness was the only place of worship built in the country to celebrate the Millennium.

The Millennium Avenue was planted from cuttings taken from a small-leaved lime tree which is britain's oldest tree, possibly over 6,000 year old.
